I know some of you may be wondering when I’ll be posting something new, so, I thought I should give you all an update on why I’ve not posted a recipe in a while.
First of all, I had surgery in my right wrist…that’s right, my right wrist, the one I use most, the one I use to stir, scoop, hold, press, squeeze and so forth when baking, writing and typing! My first surgery was in October 2013 and it was for “De Quervain Tendonitis” which is a painful tendon on the thumb side of the wrist that sometimes occurs from over-use. This is different from carpel tunnel because it’s on the side below the thumb in the wrist area. Normally this surgery is often routine day surgery that requires a few sutures, rest and in a few weeks back to normal. Fo me, this was not a normal routine surgery.
After healing for 5 to 6 weeks and all seemed to be going well, I developed a bacteria in my wrist causing fluid to build up which required it to be drained 6 times. I had to have a port for IV infusions which are still ongoing as of today. I also had to have another surgery last week to remove scar tissue and to have it flushed and cleaned out. The hand surgeon sent out lots of cultures and labs. I have also been seeing another doctor for the bacteria…he is the one who ordered the IV infusions to be done daily. Tomorrow I go back to the hand surgeon to find out the results of all the cultures and labs collected at the time of surgery last week.
I will be out of work until the middle of March…no working or baking until the doctor gives the okay. I do have some recipes with photos that I’ve not had time to post, so, I should be able to post a few of them soon, but it’s a long process to type them up since I’m now typing with one finger on my left hand….very slow typing! lol Ohhhhh how I’m looking forward to typing again with both hands!
I have been trying to answer a few questions here and there, but still in the process of answering more in the next few days. I do want to let you all know that I will not have all the answers some of you are looking for when it comes to the recipes I post. I’m not a professional baker, I’m a baker like your next door neighbor, I make baking occasionally, I burn things occasionally and I make lots of mistakes in my spelling and grammar as some of you have mentioned. I try my best to type without errors, but I occasionally make mistakes…some of you may say it’s more than an occasional mistake! lol
Anyway, I am really happy some of you have added a few of my recipes to your recipe collection…that’s what this blog is all about. If any of you have favorite recipes you’ve been making for years, I’d love for you to share them with us. I think while I’m off work I may start a page for follower recipes only…a page just for you.
Thanks to all of you for taking the time to post messages to let me know the positives and the negatives from some of the recipes I’ve posted. Remember, I will never post a recipe here that I’ve not made myself!
Love you all!
Rosetta

Rosie, I had a knee that gave me fits after what should have been a “routine” surgery, too, a few years ago. Stay encouraged: my knee finally healed completely. I just prayed for you. The Great Physician will heal you according to HIS time frame. In the mean time / meal time….let some of US post and do the typing for you! Get well soon! And stay warm!

I just started receiving your blog. I appreciate your update and I wish you a speedy recovery!
I had a slight stroke in November and don’t know how to type at all, except using the hunt and peck approach, so I understand your difficulty. You might try a program like Dragon Speech to help you to overcome this problem.
Good luck!

So, sorry to hear you have had troubles. My son went through the same thing with his foot after a fracture. It is a long recovery and you probably have MRSA infection. If you do have MRSA it came from the surgery center where had your surgery. A good law suit material to regain some of your lost wages. I am a nurse. MRSA is what my son had a his was a closed wound. I hope you heal quickly and will be praying for your healing.

Thanks for your message Janice and so sorry your son had to go through the MRSA infection. Janice I’m not a nurse, I’m a CMA (AAMA)(associate degree) and work in Family Medicine so I do know what MRSA is and how bad it can be. The bacteria I had is called “Serratia Marcescens.” I’ve been on IV infusions every morning since Jan 10/14. I had surgery for De Quervains Release and got the infection about 1-1/2 months after surgery. Anyway, I just had a second surgery last Friday to clean it out and remove scar tissue. I got the results today and the bacteria is gone…but I now have the strep in my wrist to deal with. Thanks so much for your message and your prayers!

Hope your hand gets better. So you can get back to baking. It seems that there is a lot of this happening after people get surgery. I wonder if they are not prepping the area well enough to prevent an infection. Good luck and take care.

I agree with you David. I also work in Family Medicine at a Navy Hospital and the doctor thinks I may have contacted the bacteria from one of our patients. We have patients from all over the world so who knows where I picked it up from. Like you said David, we have to wonder if surgical instruments are properly sanitized.

Ohhhh than you Anonymous! As much as I want to bake, I know I have to follow doctors orders to be able to return to my normal activities. I really miss being able to bake anything without worrying if it’s easy enough. I came across some really easy things I can make while looking through a few cookbooks last night. I made a recipe from a Hershey’s cookbook that was super easy but I was not happy with the recipe sooooo, I am not posting it. As I have said before, if I have not made it myself I won’t post it. Also, I have to like it or love it for me to post it. Thanks for your message!

Awwww thank you Lorraine! I was given the okay to start baking again, but still have to be off work until March 11. The hand surgeon wants me to start using my wrist to build up the strength in it. I did bake a few things yesterday. I don’t want to post too much right now because of the typing. I was into pies yesterday! I hope your girls find some recipes that will become part of their recipe collection for years to come.
