If you like apples, raisins, walnuts and spices, you’ll love love love this cake! It smells heavenly while it’s baking and the yummy gooey pudding it makes is too die for…if you like this sort of thing! Very easy to make! The Amish and Mennonites didn’t have time to fuss around, they got right to the heart of making their food and desserts. I think I just took a trip back in time!

Ingredients:

2 and 1/2 cups peeled chopped apples
1 and 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup raisins
3/4 cup pecans or walnuts (optional)
1 and 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 Tablespoons butter
1 and 1/2 cup water

Directions:

Combine all but the last 3 ingredients.
Pour into a 13 x 9 pan.
Bring brown sugar, butter and water to a boil.
Carefully pour over batter.
Bake at 350 F for approximately 40 minutes.
Good plain or with whipped cream, milk or ice-cream.

Thanks Susie! I made this today and Neil liked it also. I was not sure if I’d like it or not, but I will definitely make this again. I liked the trees and lake also, it does look very serene. It’s one of WordPress themes. I know it does not go well with baking, but I still love it. WordPress needs to come out with some baking themes! lol
